The EEU offers a full-day, inclusive kindergarten program where children with and without disabilities learn, play, and grow together. Each child is recognized as a valued member of their classroom community, and we celebrate diverse ways of learning, communicating, and moving.
Our kindergarten teams follow the Seattle Public Schools general education curriculum and adapt instruction to support access for every child. Educators provide learning opportunities that are whole-group, small-group, and individualized. These instructional decisions are made based on each child’s strengths, goals, and progress throughout the school year.
Our goal is to build a joyful community of diverse learners where each child feels a sense of belonging, identity, agency, and pride. We celebrate students’ strengths and interests, while offering responsive instruction that nurtures academic skills, social-emotional development (including being part of an inclusive classroom), problem-solving, communication, and growing agency.
An interdisciplinary team, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists, partners with classroom educators to embed supports and related services within everyday routines. Special education and related services are provided by EEU staff through a contract with Seattle Public Schools, and are integrated into the learning environment whenever possible.
