Kindergarten Admissions Overview

CLICK HERE to download a visual flowchart of the application process for the kindergarten program. This flowchart describes the difference in process for children receiving general education services only and children receiving early intervention (special education) services.

General Education

All children must be 5 years old by August 31st for general education spots in the kindergarten program.

Please complete an interest application for your child to attend the EEU Kindergarten as a General Education student. This application adds your child to the interest list for the upcoming school year. Decisions are made in the Spring before the start of the school year in September. All children must be 5 years old by August 31st. Children are selected via a lottery and priority is given to children who have a sibling at the EEU and children of EEU staff.

Applications are accepted from December 1 through April 1 and are valid for one school year only. Please click the link below to submit an online application.  Paper copies are available at the EEU front desk.

2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR

We are now accepting applications for the 2024-25 school year. The application process is open until March 1, 2024 click here to access our application.

Special Education

All children needing special education services must apply through the Seattle Public Schools (SPS). The EEU contracts with SPS for a specific number of seats in each kindergarten classroom. SPS assigns children who have a current Individual Education Program (IEP) and who need specially designed instruction to the EEU Kindergarten via a citywide lottery process.

If you are interested in having your student attend a school that is not their assigned school next year, please submit a School Choice form. Forms must be submitted through The Source, via email or in-person at the John Stanford Center.

Applications received by February 29 will receive priority. SPS will continue to accept School Choice forms until May 31. These applications are prioritized based on the date the application is received.

  • New students must first register on the SPS Admissions page before participating in School Choice.
  • All Seattle Public Schools choice assignments are subject to space availability. Submitting this form does not guarantee an assignment.
  • Please review the Linked School Charts as some programs or support services may not be offered at your preferred school.
